TROGLOIRE
Chateaux in the Loire region are just like dragons - they&Mac226;re everywhere. Rich in history, architecture, cuisine, great wines and scenery, the Loire Valley is justly famous the world over. But there is much, much more. Under ground.

What is not known is that here, around the chateaux and the Royal River as the French sometimes call the Loire, exist huge, silent, roofless worlds. Dug into the cliffs and slopes lie literally hundreds, possibly thousands of kilometers of underground quarries and caves, some of them large enough to drive into, others impossible to find. The latter are unknown, with entrances hidden or covered up, forgotten, perhaps never to be found again.

DELUXE TRAVEL BY BARGE IN THE LOIRE VALLEY
Seemingly miraculously, three or four old freight barges have been converted into floating five star deluxe hotels - with a cuisine and service befitting such hotels. NOTHING is more relaxing than cruising the calm and beautiful world of the Loire canals aboard one of these boats. The speed is about 8 knots an hour - that of a brisk walk. Each boat has four air-conditioned large, double bedrooms decorated with exquisite taste. Lots of scenery, chateaux, food and wine…

MONUMENTS OF THE NILE
General feature on the ancient monuments, including extensive photographic coverage with aerials of pyramids and Sphinx...

ALPUJARRAS - SECRET CORNER OF SPAIN
A tranquil, unknown Shangri-la hidden between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean. A region of ancient, whitewashed villages, beautiful valleys, mountains - and good people. Time has stood still here. But not for much longer!...

NORWEGIAN COASTAL EXPRESS
An account of travel in the sturdy, comfortable ships of the Norwegian Coastal Express along the dramatic, fjord-dented coastline of Norway from the south to the Arctic frontier with Russia...

THE SULTANATE OF OMAN
A general feature on a fascinating and spectacularly beautiful country that has leaped from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century in the course of twenty years. Oman has maintained an aura of ancient, romantic Arabia in spite of its modernisation...

LONDON'S LITTLE VENICE AND REGENT'S CANAL
A feature on a tranquil haven in the heart of Central London: the colourful two and a quarter mile stretch of the Regent's Canal that runs from Little Venice to Camden Lock. Aboard a traditional restored canal boat, the visitor experiences a totally unexpected world ranging from lovely green nature to a golden domed mosque to the highly exotic Camden market.

THE GARLIC CAPITAL OF FRANCE
A feature on the region around Beaumont de Lomagne, Southwest France, which grows 40% of all garlic in France. How do the locals use the garlic? Some simple recipes are included as are important health aspects of garlic.
Lots of food shots...

CATHAR COUNTRY
The fascinating history of the heretic Cathars of southern France. Although they were wiped out around 1250 AD, the French still call this part of the world Cathar Country. The story traces their last strongholds, castles, countryside, influences and describes the way the region looks today.

HUMAN 'STATUES' OF LAS RAMBLAS
A form of colorful street theater - live statues of Don Quixote, Oriental devils and indescribably inventive figures have appeared on Barcelona's famous Ramblas Avenue during the last few years. They mostly stand completely immobile and could even be mistaken for real statues. A little box placed at their feet means they are making a living at this. A strong, picturesque humorous story.

PUB SIGNS
One of the most colorful aspects of the UK is treated in this story. Nearly every pub sign has a fascinating history and legend behind it. Nothing could be more typically British than these signs. A shortish feature with lots of anecdotal material.

FRENCH STURGEON TO THE RESCUE
With the sturgeon rapidly being depleted in the Caspian Sea, the French are coming to the rescue. In the Gironde area where wild sturgeon once was abundant, the fish is now being bred in ponds and caviar production is doubling annually. The quality of the caviar is excellent - and fetches the same price as Russian and Iranian caviar. The sturgeon is a succulent, boneless fish which may have a great future in every way - fresh, smoked, and in the form of caviar. The story is covered from the catching of the sturgeon to the dining table.

PROVENCE
This story attempts to cover the very best of Provence - gorgeous scenery, markets, people, some of the main towns, monuments, cuisine.
